George Hales

Club Director

George became Academy Director of Metro United after 5 years with the Washington Spirit, serving in multiple roles from the Assistant TD, DA HC and Reserves AC. He brings over a decade of experience coaching Youth Club, ODP, College Club, Super-Y, Public high school, Private high school, Futsal and DA teams in Virginia. George has completed the USC Premier Diploma, USC Futsal License and USSF A license. George also holds his M.B.A. and Bachelor degrees. In addition to coaching, George has spent the last 6 years working with a local communications company in Tysons; most recently in a director role within the customer success organization.

George looks forward to bringing his broad experience and passion for coaching to Metro United. George firmly believes that dedication and hard work contribute the development of successful soccer player and person. Under his leadership George aims to build Metro United into an elite soccer destination in Northern Virginia.

Spencer Henderson

Technical Director

Spencer has 14 years of experience coaching, and spent the last 9 years in the Northern Virginia area working with top DA and ECNL programs. He is an innovative and high energy coach experienced in developing players for the top environments in the country.

With a love and passion for the game, Spencer grew up playing in the competitive environment of Dallas, TX and went on to play Div III and Div I as a student athlete. He graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in History and Philosophy. He currently holds his USC Premier Diploma and USSF C license and will be pursuing his USSF B license in the upcoming year. Spencer will be using his passion for the game and significant experience as a coach and player to develop one of the top programs in the region.

Ashlee Fontes-Comber

Strategic Consultant

Metro United is thrilled to have Ashlee Fontes-Comber as a club strategic consultant for the 2020-2021 season.

Fontes-Comber comes to us with an accomplished background in both business and soccer. She played NCAA Division 1 soccer at Florida State University, Fontes-Comber and professionally in the W-League and the USL. She also worked as a coach for Loudon Soccer Club between 2007 and 2013, started the girls’ soccer program at Tuscarora High School, worked with VYSA and FYSA ODP, and holds a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma.

Ashlee previously served as COO of the Washington Spirit and has held stints with teams within the ABA, WNBA/NBA, and NHL. She currently serves as vice president on the board of directors of United Soccer Coaches and will be president in 2022.

Fontes-Comber’s intricate knowledge of the youth soccer landscape provides Metro United with an immediate advantage as we move forward. 

Ismael (Izzy) Cotto

Director of College Placement

Izzy comes to Metro United having spent 15+ years working DA /ECNL and Div I College environments. He has the knowledge and expertise necessary to produce players for the top environments. In his role as Director of College Placement, he will support Metro United. players and families navigate the college placement process. Izzy has helped to develop numerous players who went on to reach NCAA Division 1, the NWSL, MLS, USL and their youth and senior national teams both in the US and abroad.

He is a high energy, passionate coach that loves teaching the game. He is originally from Long Island, NY, where he grew up splitting time between Long Island and Sicily.

Jonah Schuman

Director of Goalkeeper

Jonah has been coaching since 2001, working with players of all ages and levels. He has spent the entirety of his coaching career in the DC area coaching with DC Stoddert Soccer Club, Potomac Soccer Club, Howard Community College, St. John’s College High School and the Maryland and Virginia ODP programs.

Jonah enjoys the challenge of coaching in an elite-level environment and providing guidance to players as they strive to reach their soccer, academic and life goals. He recently obtained his USSF-A License and has his United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma.

Brian Bouhl

Goalkeeper Coach

Brian Bouhl brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Metro United. He recognizes the importance of the goalkeeper position as the last defender and the first attacker. At Metro United, Brian will support the development of well-rounded goalkeepers.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Brian Bouhl currently works as Georgetown University Men’s Asst Coach, assisting in all aspects of the Hoya program, with primary responsibility on coaching the Hoya goalkeepers and managing the sport science program. In his first year with Georgetown, Coach Brian won the NCAA Championship. Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky. He holds his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) E License as well as the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Diploma.

Sascha Filippi

Futsal Coach

Sascha Filippi is the owner and technical director of Premier Futsal Academy. Sascha comes to Metro United with a abundance of knowledge and experience developing Futsal players into technically and tactically strong soccer players. He believes in the value of teaching players how to creatively see and understand the game.

Sascha is the DC area’s most experienced Futsal coach, but also takes his role as mentor very seriously and wants to ensure he teaches his players lessons that transcend the Futsal court.

Coach Sascha’s Futsal experience started in Belgium. Before coming to the U.S. Coach Sascha played Futsal professionally in the First National Division of Belgium, as well as the First Division of France.

After his Futsal career ended, Sascha coached multiple Futsal national teams, R.D.Congo, France, and Catalunya. Sascha has also coached the Congo’s U-21 as head coach and their senior National Futsal team as an assistant coach.

As the head coach of the French U21 Men’s National Futsal Team, led the group to third and fourth place finishes in the two consecutive European championships. As coach of the French women’s national team, the squad was able to achieve 4th place finish at European championship. Additionally, he led the Catalunya national Futsal team to a world championship and subsequently to the quarterfinals of the Futsal World Cup.
